What is a letter of interest?
The letter of interest is mainly used to create a favourable impression toward the recruiter, to introduce your curriculum vitae (CV) as well as to obtain and interview. It mentions your aptitudes, skills and interests on the basis of the needs of the cegep and of the job you would like to obtain. The CV and the letter of interest are documents that used to convince the recruiter of the value of your candidacy.
Drafting of a letter of interest
The letter of interest indicates clearly your intent and introduces your CV. It informs the recruiter on the position you are interested in and your professional goals. It makes him curious about you and induces him to meet you. It should not be more than a single page and it is generally made of three parts: the introduction, the rationale and the conclusion.
The three parts of the letter of interest
First part: introduction
The introduction should have only a couple of lines. You should write your approach goal and identify the position you are interested in. If you are recommended by someone or if the letter arises out of a telephone conversation or an advertisement, you have to mention it in this paragraph.
Second part: the rationale
This section is the most important. It should put emphasis on your experiences and your skills related to the desired position. State your aptitudes and experiences on the basis of the needs of the cegep. Remember that it is in this part that you will have to convince the recruiter that you are the most qualified candidate for the position.
Third part: the conclusion
The conclusion completes your letter of interest. It is in this part that you specifically ask for an interview and that you reiterate your interest in the position.
It is appropriate to conclude with a formula of courtesy, to write your name and to sign the letter by hand, using blue or black ink.
