Interview

Interview

This is the last step of the job search: you are summoned to a job interview. Selected among several candidates, your curriculum vitae (CV) has held the attention of the recruiter. Now you should take action in order for your interview to be a successful one. You have to prepare yourself accordingly.

Why an interview?

The interview is the last step before employment. For one thing, it is the perfect occasion to convince the recruiter that you are the perfect candidate and that he should hire you. At the same time, it is also the occasion to ask questions on the proposed position, the concerned service or department and the cegep in order to verify if the work environment suits you.

This interview allows the recruiter to get better acquainted with you, to enquire on what you can bring to the institution and to ascertain how well you can integrate yourself and get along with the other employees. He might ask questions about your skills, your qualifications and your work experiences using the information of your CV.

During an interview, the recruiters appreciate the candidates that are relaxed and capable of expressing themselves clearly. They are trying to obtain precise information on you such as your career plan, your ability to communicate, your ability to solve problems and conflicts, your adaptivity, your sense of responsibility, your degree of maturity, etc.

Fight your shyness, smile and show interest toward the position and the institution. It is important to make a good impression because it is during the interview that all is decided. Be confident and put emphasis on the achievements that you are the most proud of. Keep in mind that the interview allows you to make your own assessment of the work environment and of the cegep : you will see, you will be more relaxed!

Depending on the institution, the type of position desired, the type of interview may vary. It is important to be prepared for all the contingencies. However, know that usually, when you are summoned for an interview, you will be informed in advance of the type of interview that will be used.
