Expressing yourself effectively : an undisputed asset

In Quebec, French is the official language. In Canada, there is two official languages, French and English, as well as 53 recognized aboriginal languages. A majority of cegeps choose French as a communication and instruction language. However, there is 5 cegeps who choose English as a communication and instruction language.

Before starting a job search within a cegep, it is important to assess your proficiency in the official languages. Communication being at the height of any professional activity, your ability to adequately communicate in French or in English could make all the difference at the time of selection.

We invite you to visit the suggested websites and to complete the assigned questions; generally speaking they are simple and entertaining. Keep in mind that these questions are meant as a guide only and that the results are not official. You wish to improve your communication skills? Some internet resources offer free on line lessons of great quality.

It is possible that a cegep considering your candidacy asks you to complete a questionnaire in order to assess your language proficiency in either French or English. This is where the quality of your preparation could make a difference and could benefit you with reference to a competitor.

The cegeps apply a policy of equal access to employment and welcome applications from women, Aboriginal peoples, members of visible minorities and persons with disabilities to present their candidature.
